It seems that the importance of social gaming is continuing to increase.
Nearly a quarter of Facebook users play online games and developers are busy exploring the trend of connecting to Facebook from mobile devices.
Matt Wyndowe, head of the games and applications team at Facebook, said that Facebook users love games and developers build businesses around them. He went on to say that they’ve “seen mobile greatly increase the amount of time people spend playing games… It is a rapidly growing ecosystem.”
In May Facebook opened its App Center in order to increase the spread of games on the social network.
Alex Dale, spokesman for King.com said that “it introduces a huge mobile discovery mechanism.”
He added that people love social gaming and will play on whatever device they can, Dale believes that “If you give them the chance, they will play more.”
Dale pointed out that the iPhone’s popularity is largely due to the fact people can play games with each other and Facebook “made it really easy to be social.”
At present Facebook has no plans to develop its own games, instead they want to make it so that people can use the social network to connect and play regardless of what device they are using.
