The Atlantic Lottery has launched a betting market on the Oscars and is accepting bets on some of the biggest categories.
The Senior Brand Manager of Sports Lotteries at Atlantic Lottery, James Reilly, said that they are always on the lookout for markets which gamblers will enjoy.
He said that “it’s the heart of awards season right now. It was an obvious choice to offer since millions of people tune in to the annual awards show. People are always casting their votes around the water cooler at work and now they have the option to make their predictions pay off.”
The Golden Globe awards have caused some of the Oscar odds to change, for instance in the best movie category Lincoln saw its odds cut, making it an even bigger favourite.
In the supporting actor category Christph Waltz from Tarantino’s Django Unchained moved up in the ranks.
Betting on the Oscars is not new; Ladbrokes in the UK have been running Oscar betting markets for around a decade.
However, there have been less bets placed this year as the new Bond film Skyfall failed to be nominated for the high-profile categories and most of the competition centres around Lincoln and Les Miserables.
