The Manitoba government has launched an online casino which already has 4000 players registered to play after just one month of operations.
However, while the site is receiving fairly large traffic, serious poker players are finding the meagre winning pools frustrating.
The online poker room generally has a few hundred players online at any given time; however, there are many other international poker sites available which has far more players and hence much larger prize pools.
When online poker was first regulated in the UK players flocked to the safer legal operators, however, it wasn’t long before they moved to international sites which had better betting odds and larger prizes.
Manitoba Lotteries’ director of corporate affairs, Andrea Kowal, said “it’s going to be a slow and steady growth over years.”
Many critics are claiming that it won’t be long until players start visiting international sites and start leaving their money there instead of in Manitoba as intended by the government. It is also being claimed that the government run casinos are less attractive and do not have enough experience to compete with the international market.
