Next month Canada and Spain will face each other in the Davis Cup. At present Spain is the favourite to win with odds of 1/6 while the best odds on Canada are 7/2.
However, there have been some recent developments which may begin to shift the odds in Canada’s favour.
It was recently announced that David Ferrer will be missing the Davis Cup and there is a high chance the Rafael Nadal will also be absent.
Ferrer informed the Spanish Davis officials that he will not be available from the matches against Canada.
Nadal has not been able to play since June 28th due to a knee injury and he is now suffering from a stomach virus.
At the moment he is hoping to return to playing in late February on clay in Acapulco.
Albert Molina, Ferrer’s agent, said that Ferrer will need to rest after playing a full schedule which began last week at the Abu Dhabi exhibition and continues with the ATP events in Doha and Auckland followed by the Australian Open.
Molina also mentioned that Ferrer has only had five days of holiday this year and is exhausted.
