Sony recently announced that the price of the PlayStation4 would be increased by $50CA across Canada. This increase comes as a result of manufacturing constraints as well as increasing demands for the console which has created a limited supply of Sony’s console in the country.
Over the weekend, the price of the PS4 moved from $400CA to $450CA while the prices of the PlayStation Camera as well as the DualShock 4 controller have also been increased by $5CA each.
According to Toronto Sun, Sony has stated that the hike in the prices has occurred as a result of market environment changes.
They could be referring to the rate of exchange since over the last year, the Canadian Dollar (CA) has weakened against the US Dollar (USD).
In March last year, both currencies had the same value but by the first month of this year, the CA declined by 10% to $0.90US. As a result, game prices have also increased and are now selling at $65CA each.
The new game releases by Sony such as MLB 14 The Show and Infamous: Second Son, will be sold at $70CA. To date, Sony has outsold the Xbox One but the big question now is with this new price increase as well as Microsoft throwing in Titanfall with their latest console, which one will be the hot product of the year?
